Travel Rewards

General Travel FAQs

There are three ways your points can help you travel:

  • Travel for FREE using your BMO Rewards points.

  • Travel for less using a combination of BMO Rewards points plus cash.

BMO Rewards points can be redeemed two ways, online or through our expert travel professionals. Use our online search tool under the Travel section to help you find your special retreat. Or you can call
1-866-991-2835 to reach our BMO Rewards Centre travel professionals who will help you book your next vacation, flight, car rental, cruise, hotel and more.

If you already belong to an airline rewards program, you may continue to earn frequent flyer miles. Whenever you pay for flights on that carrier through our BMO Rewards Centre you can earn their points too by providing your airline rewards number to the travel professional. It couldn’t be easier.

We can handle all your travel needs, from flights to hotels, cruises, car rentals to vacation packages and more. You can search and book online 24/7 or you can call the BMO Rewards Centre at 1-866-991-2835 during regular business hours to speak to a travel professional.

Use your points to get you where you want to be:

  • Flights
  • Rental cars
  • Rail tickets
  • Hotels
  • Holiday packages and cruises
  • Travel for pleasure or business

When using your BMO Rewards points, there are no blackout periods so you can travel at any time of the year even during peak periods. Your travel arrangements are treated like every reservation. That means that you’re not limited to rewards seats on airlines or to any particular airline or hotel.

We want you to get where you want to be. To make the easier, you can use some, all, or none of your points to pay for your travel plans. Just charge the difference (no minimum amount of points required), or the entire trip, to your BMO Rewards credit card.

If you are unable to book your flight/hotel/vacation package online for any reason please call
1-866-991-2835 and a BMO Rewards agent will be able to assist with your booking. Where online travel requests may not be completed, the agent booking fee of $29.95 plus applicable taxes will apply.

You can use your points to cover the booking fees. There is no online booking fee. A fee of $29.95, plus applicable taxes, will be charged per phone booking. A $25 change/cancellation fee applies for each change or cancellation to your travel arrangements. Supplier change/cancellations fees can also apply and will be displayed at time of booking based on your specific travel reservation. Booking fees, change/cancellations fees are non-refundable.

Your points can be redeemed for all applicable travel or vacation expenses, including taxes, booking fees and airport fees.

For every 10,000 points you redeem you will receive a credit of $100 towards your travel of choice.

Most information can be found in the BMO Rewards Terms and Conditions you received with your card. Select the Terms and Conditions link at www.bmorewards.com. If those don’t answer your questions, please call us at the BMO Rewards Centre at 1-866-991-2835.

Advance booking times are dependent on a number of factors including what you book. We recommend that you book at least 14 days in advance. However, we can usually accommodate bookings within 48 hours of your departure time. Please call the BMO Rewards Centre at 1-866-991-2835. Our hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 8AM to 12AM, Saturday from 8AM to 8PM, and Sunday from 10AM to 6PM (EST).

Yes. It is mandatory that parents/guardians have proper documents for their children.
We recommend that children have a valid Canadian passport for all trips outside of Canada.

Yes, your credit card number, as well as all entrusted customer information, is encrypted in storage and during any transactional processes with our third party suppliers. All handling of a customer’s information is safeguarded and governed by both our privacy practices. For more information on privacy, please view the full policy.

A passport is the only reliable and universally accepted identification document, and it proves that you have a right to return to Canada. Some countries do not require a passport for entry but do require photographic identification (such as a driver’s license) as well as proof of Canadian citizenship (such as a birth certificate or citizenship card). However, this varies from country to country. Each country has strict documentation requirements for nationals of all countries. It is the sole responsibility of passengers to have in their possession on departure all necessary travel documentation as required by law. We recommend that you check these requirements with the appropriate embassy or consulate of the country visited.

Canadian citizens require proof of Canadian citizenship including government issued photo identification to enter the United States (e.g. a birth certificate with a driver’s license). Proof of Canadian citizenship would be a Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport or Canadian citizen identification card. Non-Canadian citizens must contact the United States Consulate for information on required travel documentation.

Depending on your travel destination, there are different document requirements. We recommend that you contact the embassy or consulate of your destination country to confirm documentation requirements.

Flight FAQs

If you need to change or cancel your flight arrangements, please call the BMO Rewards Centre at 1 866 991-2835. You can reach them Monday to Friday from 8AM to 12AM, Saturday from 8AM to 8PM, and Sunday from 10AM to 6PM (EST). Please note: changes or cancellations may be subject to penalties as per the travel suppliers terms and conditions.

The name on your airline ticket must be identical to the travel document you are using to travel – e.g. Passport, Birth Certificate, Government issued photo ID (where applicable).

Airlines normally do not modify the name on a flight ticket after the ticket has been purchased. In cases where they do allow a name correction, you may be charged a fee.

If you need any clarifications or need to make any changes to your flight arrangements, please call the BMO Rewards Centre at 1-866-991-2835. Please note: changes or cancellations may be subject to penalties as per the travel suppliers terms and conditions.

Almost every major airline now offers Electronic tickets or e-tickets in place of a standard paper ticket. An e-ticket is an electronic confirmation issued by the airline with the passenger’s name, ticket number, itinerary and fare information.

You should present your e-ticket in addition to the required personal ID documentation (e.g. a valid passport, birth certificate, etc.) at the specified airline’s check-in counter.

We strongly recommend that you print copies of any travel documents that are sent to you electronically, including your e-ticket. Airline representatives and/or Customs officials may (at any time) request to view your e-ticket. You may be denied boarding if you do not have your e-ticket available upon request.

Your itinerary is your personal travel schedule but this document will not grant you boarding access. Your e-ticket is the only acceptable document for boarding access.

Your e-ticket should display an airline ticket number and the status of your reservation as “Confirmed”.

If you need to change or cancel your flight arrangements, please call the BMO Rewards Centre at 1-866-991-2835. Our hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 8AM to 12AM, Saturday from 8AM to 8PM, and Sunday from 10AM to 6PM (EST). Please note: changes or cancellations may be subject to penalties as per the travel suppliers terms and conditions.

We recommend that you always carry a paper receipt of your e-ticket for both international and trans-border travel.

The receipt is the confirmation that we send to you by email. We recommend that you print this and all your other travel documentation, including your e-ticket. It is also a good idea to leave an extra copy of these documents with a friend or family member while you are traveling.

The flights we display are determined by different factors – what most closely matches your search criteria or your requested schedule, the lowest-priced flights and/or any other search options you selected.

Another factor to keep in mind is that reservations systems are constantly changing as airlines do real time updates to their fares, rules and restrictions. These updates directly affect availability. Certain discounts may apply to a very limited number of seats. These discounted seats could also be available for only certain routes or days.

As a result, an advertised fare that you see could be outside your search parameters or already completely booked and no longer available.

After accepting any travel arrangement offered, the sale is final and is subject to the terms and conditions of that travel arrangement.

If the price decreases, we are unable to refund the difference due to standard travel industry practice. If the price increases after you book, you will not be expected to pay the difference. Rates can be reduced by travel suppliers at any time without advance notification to the travel industry. These prices apply to new bookings only.

We will make every reasonable effort to search for more information upon a customer’s request, however BMO Rewards will not price match against any discount travel trade houses or online discount retail agencies. For more information on the Price Match Guarantee Program, please visit the Travel section of the BMO Rewards website or contact the BMO Rewards Centre at 1-866-991-2835 from Monday to Friday from 8AM to 12AM, Saturday from 8AM to 8PM, and Sunday from 10AM to 6PM (EST). One of our BMO Rewards Agents would be pleased to search for a lower fare for you.

Different fares apply depending on the individual airline’s fare rules and the flight itinerary.
For example: For travel within Canada, most airlines will not charge a fare for an infant. For trans-border flights, you may be required to pay the taxes for an infant fare. For international flights, you will be required to pay a certain percentage of the regular fare, plus taxes.

Please note: you can book a flight for an infant online. Select the desired flight, and select the number of infants. If an infant rate is applicable, it will be quoted for you.

Rates for children under 12 years of age are quoted by selecting “Child” on the search page. Children’s rates will only be quoted if they apply to the type of travel product you select.

During the booking process, you will be prompted for this information.

Yes. You or the person you designate can book travel for anyone you choose, such as employees, family members or friends.

In general terms, these are the main differences between the two types of flights:

Charter:

  • Airlines charter their planes to tour operators and/or suppliers
  • Charter airlines cannot accept reservations directly from a consumer
  • Flights tend to leave on specified days of the week
  • More restrictive fares/rules/ itineraries
  • Prices fluctuate based on demand

Scheduled:

  • Independently operated airlines that sell direct to the consumer
  • Daily flights and usually more than one flight a day depending on destination
  • More flexible with fares/rules/itineraries

BMO Rewards can neither control nor guarantee when a price may be reduced. We recommend that you book your trip when you feel comfortable with all the variables including the price.

Once you accept any travel arrangements offered, the sale is final and is subject to the terms and conditions of that travel arrangement. Sales are applicable to new bookings only.

BMO Rewards Centre uses the following procedures for document delivery:

  • Paper tickets are sent via Courier at no extra fee.
  • E-tickets are delivered via e-mail.
  • Airport or pier pick up may be required depending on time restrictions.

Your confirmation will be sent to you via email.

As fuel prices fluctuate and technology changes, airlines are continually updating their luggage allowance. We recommend that prior to flying, you check on your airline’s website for their current luggage allowance standards.

Should you encounter such a situation, please contact your airline as soon as possible. Almost every airline will have a lost luggage desk for passengers upon their arrival at the airport.

When you book a flight on certain airlines through BMO Rewards website, we follow a ‘credit redemption’ process. Credit redemption occurs when a customer is charged the total cost of the product directly on their credit card by a third party supplier like an airline, hotel or car rental agency. Customers will receive a credit on their BMO® Rewards™* credit card for the value of points they wish to redeem. If you are not redeeming any points, the airline will charge your BMO Rewards credit card and you’ll be awarded bonus points on your card.

A frequent flyer program (FFP) is a loyalty program offered by airlines. Typically, airline customers enrolled in the program accumulate frequent flyer miles (kilometers, points, segments etc.. ) corresponding to the distance flown on that airline or its partners. Point/mile accumulation does vary from airline to airline.

We provide you with the capability to enter in your frequent flyer number when making an airline reservation. Please note that we are only passing your frequent flyer number to the airline. We are not responsible for the issuance or redemption of miles, points or benefits of airline reward programs.

To redeem your frequent flyer points/miles you must contact the airline directly. We cannot redeem miles on your behalf.

The information entered for your Passenger Details, including Title, First Name, Last Name and Aeroplan Account Number, must match what appears on your Aeroplan card in order to collect your Aeroplan miles. Please also note that the First Name and Last Name on your Aeroplan account information must match your passport or proof of citizenship. If they do not match you will need to update your Aeroplan account information in order to successfully collect your Frequent Flyer miles.
